What unexplored path are you subconsciously being drawn to?
A 2 minute check in to kick-start your week
The Monday Morning Stand-up #18
What unexplored path are you being subconsciously drawn to?
I started racing triathlon around a year ago.
After a check in call with my coach last weekend, I have spent the last week contemplating why I began this journey in the first place.
My background lies at the complete opposite end of the spectrum to endurance sports. I was a 5’7 strength athlete, who played rugby in the front row, at around 118kg.
What was the unconscious draw to a sport unsuited to my physique or physiology?
I couldn’t put my finger on it until I watched this 41 second clip with ultra-runner Courtney Dauwalter.
I think the draw was the need to completely relearn a skill, to return to the metaphorical classroom as a beginner and to take the most difficult personal path to ultimate fitness.
I feel that by embracing the struggle, finding peace in the pain-cave and ‘making the pain-cave bigger’, I have become a more resilient, more alive, and more capable version of myself in all aspects of life.
Is there an unexplored path that you are subconsciously being drawn to - if so, what is stopping you explore it?
The power of language is unparalleled - as within this 41 second clip, Courtney perfectly deciphers my contemplation and encapsulates my entire journey in 4 words.
‘Making the pain-cave bigger’
Have a great week!
